Princess Anne Cavaliers Defeat Lee Lancers in VHSL State Basketball Quarter Finals

The VA Northern Regional Champions earned a #2 seed in the Virginia High School League State Basketball Tournament against the #7 Seed Princess Anne Lady Cavaliers. Some of the VHSL Tournament First round action took place at Robinson High School in Fairfax VA, and the winners moved on to the semi-finals at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.

Princess Anne controlled the game from the start and ended the Lee Lancers’ season with a 57-43 victory. The Cavaliers proved to be a rather strong #7 seed and seemd to beat Lee at their own game. Princess Anne built their lead via several fast break layups, offensive rebounds and their stingy defense forced Lee into many difficult perimeter shots.
The Cavs maintained a 10 to 12 for much of the 3rd quarter, but Lee fought to within 7 with 1:45 left. Everytime the Lancers seemd to gain momentum, Princess Anne turned on their defensive pressure. In the 4th quarter, Lee found themselves trailing by 14, but made one last rally to within 9 with 3:00 left, 49-40. The Cavaliers though put the game away with an 8-1 spurt and their starters left the game to a stading ovation with 45 seconds left and a 57-41 lead.

UPDATE: A Black-out due to heavy rain and winds has delayed the #2 seeded T.C. Williams boys quarterfinal game vs #7 Kings Fork Bulldogs out of Suffolk, VA …Sean will try and stick it out. The game will likely not be played until 8:00 pm if at all today.
