Virginia High School Football Playoffs 2007: Westfield Edges Oscar Smith 24-21, Advances to Div 6 Title vs Woodbridge, Photo HighLights Below; Stone Bridge Stuns Phoebus 38-24, Move on to Div 5 State Championship vs Potomac; Box Scores, Video HighLights Below

Video clip of first quarter action between Stone Bridge and Phoebus

Down 21-14 at the half & 24-14 in the second half, the Stone Bridge Bulldogs showcased stingy defense and efficient offense to hand the Phoebus Phantoms their first loss of the season. Senior Running Back, Jeron Gouveia, led the Bulldogs with 103 rushing yards and three touchdowns to help close out the 38-24 victory. 8 combined turnovers kept either team from pulling away, but the Bulldogs showed tremendous resolve. After falling behind 10 points, they stayed patient with their “run first, run second, pass third” gameplan. Their offense was not predictable however, and seemed to keep the Phantoms on their toes, especially in the second half.

It is an ALL Northern Virginia State Final for both Div 5 and Div 6. The double-header starts next Saturday @ UVA’s Scott Stadium in Charlottesville…Stone Bridge vs Potomac, followed by Westfiled vs Woodbridge. See more stats, highlights & recaps below!

Stone Bridge vs Phoebus, Division 5 State Semi: Recap Below, courtesy of Gameday Magazine

ASHBURN, VA - Redemption is a beautiful thing. Not to mention a powerful offensive line. Late in the first half, Stone Bridge senior Jeron Gouveia muffed a punt that eventually turned into a Phoebus touchdown and a 21-14 Phantom halftime lead. Lesser players dwell on mistakes. Gouveia saddled up and in the second half led the Bulldogs on to a 38-24 victory over the previously undefeated and defending Division 5 state champions in what must be described as the biggest win to date in Stone Bridge football….for more of this recap, click here.
