ASHBURN, VA - And then there were two. This Friday’s match-up between the Park View Patriots and the Broad Run Spartans has been circled on the schedule since the summer, and judgment day is finally here. Just two years removed from a 1-9 season, the Spartans are 9-0 and have been impressive under second year head coach Michael Burnett. Broad Run has a talented running attack with juniors Breon Earl and Kenny McAdow leading the way. The Spartans will get their biggest test of the year Friday when they host the defending Dulles District champion Park View Patriots in what many are calling “The Game of the Year”.

How does the Post Compare with Gameday Magazine’s Poll?
Gameday Power Poll: Week 10
By Derek Lecomte
November 5, 2007
STERLING, VA - Not too much changed this week in the Power Poll, but with plenty “bubble” teams losing, there are host of new candidates to possibly enter the fold. And with it being playoff time in the Northern Region and there being a colossal game going on in Loudoun, major shakeups in the Power Poll are bound to happen in the coming weeks.
Check out where your favorite team ranks, and enjoy the “Second Season” or November Madness that is Northern Virginia football!
1. WESTFIELD 10-0
Previous: 1
Up Next: vs. South County
When up against the top-ranked Centreville defense, what does Westfield do? Well, they simply picked it apart and proceed to score 33 points- 23 of which came in the first quarter. Quarterback Mike Glennon and the Bulldogs are on fire at this point and seem to be peaking at the right time of year.
2. SHERANDO 10-0
Previous: 2
Up Next: BYE
Need any more proof that Sherando is one of the top teams in the area? Well, a 27-12 victory over Millbrook ought to help. It wasn’t until the first week of the season has a team come within two touchdowns of beating the Warriors, and right now this is the clear-cut team to beat in Region II.
3. STONE BRIDGE 9-1
Previous: 3
Up Next: vs. Lee
Last Friday, Stone Bridge wrapped up their third straight Liberty District title and number one overall seed with a dominating 45-7 win over Woodson. Stone Bridge has rolled through their entire Liberty District and now entering the playoffs they have more momentum than any Division 5 team.
4. POTOMAC 9-0
Previous: 4
Up Next: vs. Freedom-Woodbridge
Thanks to a blocked field goal in the waning seconds against Hylton, Potomac was able to preserve their perfect season. Now standing at 9-0, Potomac still maintains their title as the Northwest Region’s top team and they are a more than qualified candidate to win the Division 5 state title.
5. CHANTILLY 8-2
Previous: 6
Up Next: vs. Robinson
The Chargers got back on track with a win over then-#9 Edison. Despite playing on only three days rest, Chantilly was still able to put together a full effort against an explosive Edison team. It’s now onto the postseason where they will face Robinson, a team who has been struggling in recent weeks.
6. BATTLEFIELD 8-1
Previous: 5
Up Next: at Loudoun Valley
Battlefield slips one spot only because of Chantilly’s big win over Edison on Friday. Nonetheless, Battlefield continues to play stellar football as they’ve now clinched as the Cedar Run District champions, and will more than likely gain the number one seed in the Division 6 Northwest Region playoffs.
7. PARK VIEW 9-0
Previous: 7
Up Next: at #8 Broad Run
Park View scored a huge 33-15 win over Heritage, making a statement that they are in fact quite the force to be reckoned with. Now they have a date with #8 Broad Run, in what is one of the most highly anticipated match-ups Loudoun County has seen in quite awhile. Winner of that contest will have the right to be crowned Dulles District champions.
8. BROAD RUN 9-0
Previous: 8
Up Next: vs. #7 Park View
Broad Run stays in the eighth spot after they handily defeated Freedom-South Riding by the score of 49-0. Now it’s off to face undefeated and number seven ranked Park View, as they try to gain their first district title in over a decade. This is a game Broad Run has been looking forward to for some time now, so don’t expect anything less than a complete effort from the Spartans.
9. FAUQUIER 8-1
Previous: 10
Up Next: vs. Liberty
With a win over Osbourn Park last Friday, Fauquier has now ensured themselves of a spot in the Division 5 Northwest Region playoffs. However, Fauquier will not be satisfied with just that as they get set to face Liberty in the annual ‘Bird Bowl.’ With pride on the line, the Falcons will most certainly not be looking forward to the playoffs in this one.
10. EDISON 8-2
Previous: 9
Up Next: vs. Yorktown
Edison suffered a tough 21-14 loss to #5 Chantilly last Friday and that set them back one spot in the Power Poll. It was turnovers that spelled the fate for the Eagles, but you can bet that head coach Vaughn Lewis will work to correct that now that the playoffs are starting.
OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES:
WEST SPRINGFIELD 8-2: West Springfield wrapped up the regular season with a 35-21 win over Lee, and now they have a showdown with Centreville in the first round playoffs. Going up against the vaunted Centreville defense should be a great test to determine whether West Springfield has what it takes to advance far into the playoffs.
LAKE BRADDOCK 8-2: The Bruins were able to secure the fourth spot in the playoffs with a suffocating 63-14 win over Hayfield. Now it’s off to face district foe West Potomac in what could be the most exciting first-round match-up in the Northern Region.
MILLBROOK 8-2: With Madison, Centreville, and Heritage all losing, that opened up the door for Millbrook to start making their way into the Power Poll. Despite losing to Sherando last week, Millbrook is still second-place in Division 3 where they would play none other than Briar Woods.
JAMES WOOD 8-2: With their 35-13 win over Handley, that certainly made James Wood a legitimate candidate to possibly enter the Power Poll. They are currently in a tight power points race with Heritage for the final playoff spot in Division 4 that will likely be decided on how other teams fare in their games next week.
