Game Day Magazine released their updated Poll for Week 8. See their Top 10 and where they play. Washington Post and Sun Gazette polls are below. Comment section is below if you have any input!
1. WESTFIELD 8-0
Previous: 1
Next Up: at Oakton
Westfield jumped all over Herndon last week to grab a 34-0 win at home. The game was called in the 3rd quarter because of lightning, but the only thing that did was save the Hornets from more of a pounding. The Bulldogs are getting primed for a state title run, and their offense is clicking on all cylinders. We’ll see if the Oakton Cougars can slow them down…..
2. CHANTILLY 7-1
Previous: 2
Next Up: vs Centreville
The Chargers continue to rack up big gains and big points on the ground and last week’s win over Fairfax in the rain once again showcased the talent that Chantilly has in its backfield. The Chargers want another chance at Westfield, but this week they will get the team that is right down the road from the Bulldogs with the Centreville Wildcats coming to town. This game will be a great test for the Chantilly running game as Centreville plays great defense….
3. SHERANDO 8-0
Previous: 3
Next Up: at Brentsville
The Warriors hit the road again for the second straight week and they will look to continue their dominance on the ground. Last week’s 28-13 win over James Wood showcased the strength of this Sherando team, but their biggest test will come in the final week of the season when they play host to Millbrook. The Pioneers are quietly running over people as well so this week’s contest against Brentsville should be a good tune up for the season finale and district championship game.
4. STONE BRIDGE 7-1
Previous: 4
Next Up: vs. Thomas Jefferson
Stone Bridge proved once again last week that they were the best in the Liberty District by crushing the undefeated Madison Warhawks 27-7. Stone Bridge now firmly has a hold of the Liberty District and the #1 seed for the Division 5 playoffs if they take care of business and win out. The biggest question mark for the Bulldogs now appears to be how healthy they can get before the post-season starts. Quarterback Patrick Thompson has a sore thumb and now a sore knee after being injured in the game against the Warhawks. If the Bulldogs can get out to a big lead against Jefferson, they would be wise to rest their starters to get ready for the second season….
5. POTOMAC 8-0
Previous: 5
Next Up: at Forest Park
The Panthers continue to roll after beating Gar-Field last week. With Forest Park next on the schedule, Potomac could very well be 9-0 next week. The Panthers do have a tough game awaiting next week against Hylton, but can’t afford to look past this week’s game. Look for the Panthers to continue to roll.
6. FAUQUIER 7-0
Previous: 6
Next Up: vs Battlefield
The Fauquier Falcons continue to be the story of the year as they pounded the Stonewall Jackson Raiders 54-16 last week to improve to 7-0. This week’s game against Battlefield is arguably the most anticipated match-up in the Northern Virginia region. Battlefield is on a roll as is Fauquier, and the Cedar Run District Title will most likely be decided this Friday…..
7. BATTLEFIELD 6-1
Previous: 8
Next Up: at #6 Fauquier
The Battlefield Bobcats have put together a great season thus far, but it can either become a Cinderella season or an average season after this week’s game against Fauquier. The Falcons are sitting atop the Cedar Run district, but with a win, the Bobcats can put a stranglehold on their title chances. Look for this game to be high scoring and close to the finish…..
8. PARK VIEW 7-0
Previous: 9
Next Up: at Dominion
Park View beat a solid Briar Woods team last week 17-7 to improve to 7-0 and keep hold of 1st place in the Dulles District. The Patriots are one of the area’s most intriguing teams because they have the talent to compete for a regional title, and yet if they don’t come to play a complete game, they could get beat any Friday. This week’s game against Dominion is a big one for the kids in Sterling, and the Patriots have to be prepared to stop freshman phenom Deandre Reaves, who rushed for 263 yards and 4 touchdowns last week against Heritage. If Park View plays like it is capable of, this game shouldn’t be close….
9. BROAD RUN 6-1
Previous: 10
Next Up: at Potomac Falls, LR FEATURE GAME!!!!
Broad Run didn’t win big as expected, but they won, which is what is most important when trying to stay in the Power Poll. This week, the Spartans travel to face the pesky Potomac Falls Panthers, who traditionally give Broad Run their best challenge every year. Look for something crazy to happen in this game that could decide the outcome, simply because it usually does when the Spartans and Panthers meet. Broad Run has more talent, but Potomac Falls is vastly improved….
10. EDISON 7-1
Previous: NR
Next Up: at Washington-Lee
Quietly racking up big numbers and big scores are the Edison Eagles. Edison has crushed every opponent since their early season loss to West Springfield. Edison’s schedule is nothing to write home about, but the fashion in which they are winning is impressive. Look for another big offensive explosion this week against Washington-Lee. The Eagles may be the one team nobody wants to see in the playoffs…..
ALSO RECEIVING VOTES:
MADISON: 7-1:The Warhawks drop out of the Power Poll this week due to a very poor showing against Stone Bridge. Madison will be in the playoffs, but this team has to get some variety on offense in its game plan, and find some play makers if they are going to survive for long in the post-season.
WEST SPRINGFIELD 6-2: West Springfield rebounded from their tough loss to South County to smash T.C Williams 45-13. This week’s opponent is Lake Braddock, and the outcome of the game is ultimately going to decide the Patriot District Championship.
LAKE BRADDOCK 7-1: We will find out whether or no Lake Braddock is for real this week against West Springfield. The Bruins appear to have what it takes to be the district champion, but they will have to show it on Friday to convince the rest of the region.
HERITAGE 5-2: The one team that may be peaking at the right time is none other than the Heritage Pride. The Pride crushed the Dominion Titans 42-28 last week behind the arm of Kyle Nelson. Nelson threw for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns, a school record. Look for this week’s game against Briar Woods to determine whether or not this team is a legit Power Poll contender, or just a pretender.
