Sumter Legion (South Carolina) scored a run in the bottom of the 9th to beat host Shelby Legion (North Carolina) 4-3 and win the Southeast Regionals. Sumter now advances to the 2008 American Legion Baseball World Series.
Earlier in the day, Sumpter Legion avenged an earlier loss to Randolph County Legion (North Carolina) to complete their ascent from the loser’s bracket to the championship game, beating the NC state champion 6-1.
Sumter Legion advances to the 2008 Legion Word Series, also to be played at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, NC. Sumter will open on Friday against the Northeast champion, Bristol Legion (Connecticut).
