Tarboro vs North Johnston 8/12/08 (Scrimmage)

Hmmmmm….Let’s just say that there are always positives to take away from competing with bigger folks. The little get together between the Vikings of Tarboro and the Panthers of North Johnston was anything but pleasant for the home crowd. The O-line of Tarboro had at least four guys who were 6′2″ or better and tilted the scales at around 230lbs. From the moment the ball was snapped they were 5 yards deep. The Vikings were a team of athletes with a lot of speed on the corners. The good news is, I don’t see another team in the Carolina 1-A conference outside of Ayden-Grifton that can resemble the personnel we fought with tonight. They’re are certainly some glaring holes that need major improvement but as Coach Nelson told his troops after the game ” we’ve only been in pads for three days and competing like this now is what we need to get better and find the problem areas.”
We got our first peak tonight at the new second string QB #10 Ivan Trevino. The kid is drastically shorter than the starter #7 Joe Harned. However, he appears to have good mobility in the backfield and capable of avoiding a rush. Harned was sacked on numerous occasions tonight as a result of not having any time in the pocket before the bad guys arrived. Harned is quite tall and sees the field and defense very clearly. It will be interesting to see that position develop during the early games of this year.

Should be a HUGE crowd and enough football to jump start any Monday morning quaterback’s battery! See ya there folks….By the way, if you see a balding fat guy walking up and down the sideline talking into his hand, feel free to bring him a cheeseburger from the concession stand…..No onions please!
