MLB deadline deals: Manny to Marlins seems dead
July 31st, 2008 Posted in MLBApparently because the Marlins are now asking for lots of cash to be accompanying Manny to Florida. Sounds to me like they got cold feet at the 11th hour, and they probably should have.
But why not make a move for Jason Bay directly? The Fish have the prospects and if they feel they are one slugger from playoff promised land then there is no need to go up to Beantown when there is a younger one sitting in Steel City that is apparently also on the block.
Usually we overrate things like player’s with hurt feelings or bruised egos - they are the best at what they do for a reason - but in this case the Red Sox may have gone too far. If so the BoSox will likely end up choosing a last minute dance partner that won’t provide anything close to Jason Bay.
