Defending state champion Cherryville Legion advanced to the 2008 NC State Legion playoffs, beating Pineville 19-8 to win the Area IV championship last night. Only the winner advanced to states because the state playoff host team, Gastonia, automatically gets one of Area Four’s two bids.
Updates from the other NC Region championships:
NC Legion, Area III
Rowan County Legion defeated Randolph County Legion to even the Area 3 championship series at one game apiece. The winner will face the Area I runner-up in the opening game of the state playoffs, and the loser will face the Area I champion.
NC Legion, Area I
Wayne County Legion beat Clayton Legion in their opening game. The winner will face the Area III runner-up in the opening game of the state playoffs, and the loser will face the Area III champion.
NC Legion, Area II
Hope Mills Legion won the Area II championship so they will face Gastonia in the opening round of the state playoffs. Wilmington will have to start with defending champion Cherryville Legion.
The North Carolina state playoffs are at Sims Legion Park in Gastonia this year, starting on August 5th.
