EAST ROWAN EVENS SERIES, BEATS ROCKY MOUNT 6-2

Micah Jarrett went three for four at the plate with a double and a triple to lead East Rowan to a 6-2 victory over Rocky Mount in game two of the NCHSAA 3-A baseball championship series on Saturday at Five County Stadium.

The win by the Mustangs, now 29-5, evened the best-of-three series at one game apiece. The championship game will be this afternoon at 5 p.m.

East Rowan got off to a great start, as Jarrett’s double in the first plated two runs and then Jarrett scored on a sacrifice fly by Trey Holmes to make it 3-0.

The Gryphons, now 26-6, cut it to 3-1 in the fourth as Brian Goodwin doubled and then Jim Leggett drove him in with a two-out single. But East added a run in the fifth on back-to-back triples by Jarrett and Holmes, and then scored twice in the sixth on an error after a hit batsman, a walk and a sacrifice bunt.

William Barringer had three hits in four at-bats for Rocky Mount and Grant Johnson was two for three, including an RBI double that scored the Gryphon run in the fifth.

Justin Roland went the distance on the mound for East Rowan, striking out three and walking two, while Chris Berry took the loss on the mound for Rocky Mount.

Rocky Mount had opened the series with a 7-4 victory on Friday night behind a Jim Leggett complete game three-hitter.
