WHITE OAK BLASTS T.C. ROBERSON 4-0 TO WIN NCHSAA WOMEN’S SOCCER 3-A CHAMPIONSHIP

Angela Cole had two goals and Stephanie Rose had a goal and an assist as Jacksonville White Oak rolled to a convincing 4-0 victory over previously unbeaten Asheville T.C. Roberson on Saturday afternoon in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s women’s 3-A soccer championship at Paul Derr Stadium at N.C. State.

White Oak won its third consecutive state championship and was in the finals for the fourth consecutive year. The White Oak Lady Vikings finished the season with a 21-1-1 mark and won their last 10 in a row. T.C. Roberson was in the finals for the sixth time, but is still seeking its first state championship in women’s soccer.

Angela Cole, a sophomore midfielder, opened the scoring in the 39th minute, scoring off a ball served in the box by Stephanie Rose, who was voted as the championship MVP. That was the only goal of the tight first half.

The Lady Vikings then opened the match up with two goals in a three-minute stretch early in the second half. Freshman Emma Barber knocked in a cross from Amanda Fenton in the 49th minute to put White Oak ahead 2-0. Three minutes later Stephanie Rose ripped a rocket to the back of the net, off a pass from Kristal Tucker, making the score 3-0. It was Rose’s 43rd goal of her sensational season. Angela Cole scored the final goal with less than five minutes to play to finish off the 4-0 championship victory. White Oak had 13 shots on goal for the match to just five for Roberson.

The loss for T.C. Roberson was its first of the year after 28 consecutive victories lifted the Lady Rams to the number one spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
