Down 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, East Rowan baseball rallied to beat conference foe Mooresville 5-4, and advance to the 3-A western regional final. East Rowan will play South Point in the regional final playoff series, with the winner advancing to the 2008 NCHSAA state baseball championship.

The game was tight throughout as Mooresville ace pitcher Aubrey Meadows and East’s Justin Roland pitched well, keeping the scoreboard clean until the fifth inning. Mooresville finally broke through with the long ball in the fifth as Matt Markofski hit a solo shot to stake Mooresville to a a 1-0 lead. Mooresville went deep again in the seventh to extend their lead to 4-0 - Dylan West hitting a three-run blast.

But down to their last three outs, the Mustangs rallied from the four run deficit with a bit of everything - hit batters, walks, and a huge Kent Basinger pinch hit double got the Mustangs within one at 4-3. A Trey Holmes RBI single tied the game. With the bases juiced and nobody out, Justin Roland scored on a passed ball to win it.

East Rowan will start the best-of-three playoff series with South Point on the road in Belmont on Thursday, followed by a home game on Friday, and the deciding game three if necessary at Belmont on Saturday.
