Superbowl

February 3rd, 2008 Posted in Superbowl

The wildcard New York Giants shocked the previously undefeated New England Patriots 17-14 to win Superbowl XLII.

At the last minute, we decided that our Superbowl ad was a little expensive, so here’s our story from those of you that are new:

Live notes as watched The Game:

  • Giants defense is the story early. Big-time pressure on Tom Brady from all over the place. And preventing the big plays.
  • New England defense not as flashy, but equally effective. Manning converting some big third downs and Jacobs and Bradshaw running the ball well. As someone rooting for a Giant upset, would like to see the Giants run more, especially Bradshaw. How about some screens to these backs?
  • NE 7, NY 3 at half. Both scores on long, impressive drives, but the Pats cashed seven on a Maroney run, and the Giants had to settle for a Tynes field goal. Giants played as well as they could have hoped, and are down. Not a good sign for a Giant upset.
  • Giants go up 10-7, Manning to Tyree. Brady and the Pats respond with a typical, methodically brilliant TD drive, finishing with a Brady to Moss TD to take the 14-10 lead with 2:42 left. Giants pressure just wasn’t there, the NE passing machine was. Giant D finally wearing down? We knew the NE offense couldn’t be shut-down.
  • Time for Eli Manning and the Giants to respond with a Superbowl-winning TD drive? Not inconceivable. Wow. Can you imagine thinking weeks ago that Eli and the Giants would be 80-yards away from beating the Pats to win the Superbowl???
  • Jacobs barely converts a key third down on the ground, and then Manning makes an unbelievable play to elude a sack on a third down and hit David Tyree at the NE 34 with one minute left. Eli Manning! Manning to Steve Smith on the sideline for another first down at the 14 with 39 seconds left. Manning to Plaxico Burress. TD. TD. TD!
  • Patriots and Brady need to go about 50 yards in about 30-seconds, just to attempt a game tying field goal attempt. How much does the Giants defense have left? How much magic is in Brady’s right arm? Brady deep to Moss. Ut oh. Nope, incomplete. 4th and 20. Another long hail mary type pass.
  • NEW YORK GIANTS WIN SUPERBOWL XLII
