Salisbury High sweeps 2007 Sam Moir Christmas Classic

Video clip: Salisbury boys vs East Rowan in semi-finals

The Salisbury girls basketball team entered the Sam Moir Classic as heavy favorites, but coming into the Classic very few people were predicting that the #5 seed Salisbury boy ballers could complete the Hornet sweep of the 2007 Sam Moir Christmas Classic. However the boys proved they were up to the task, as Salisbury became the first school to sweep the Classic since West Rowan in 1992.

The Salisbury girls won their fifth straight Sam Moir championship in impressive fashion, blowing by South Rowan in the semi-finals yesterday (after a first-round bye), and dominating #2 seed East Rowan 76-27 in the championship today. Salisbury improves to 11-0 on the season, and should move up from their #8 spot in the week one girls basketball poll.

The Salisbury boys had to win three straight - Carson on Thursday, yesterday’s overtime upset of #1 seed East Rowan, and tonight’s 59-52 win over Davie County. The Salisbury transition offense was strong again tonight in the championship, with Terrell Allison, Brandon Abel and Ibn Ali all handling the ball well, getting the ball inside, and converting in the paint.

Photo and video highlights from all teams playing in the 2007 Sam Moir are up on the 2007 Sam Moir Christmas Classic web site, and more will be added throughout the weekend. The Sam Moir site includes links to each team’s web site as well, and you can add your own photos and videos to your team’s site.
