The Reidsville Rams capped an undefeated season by beating two-time defending champion Shelby to win the 2AA state championship. The Rams exploded for three second quarter touchdowns and then held off Shelby’s attempts at a second half comeback. Shelby QB Howard Thompson opened the scoring with a long TD run, but Reidsville responded with TD passes from MVP QB Ray Butchee to Kerry Hammock and Mike Brown, and a Tayon Graves TD run. Graves scored on the ground again in the third quarter for the Rams final touchdown. Shelby’s final two touchdowns came on a Donavan Gidney rushing TD, and a Thompson to Tim Gullatte TD pass.
