North Gaston comes away with a win over Anson Co.
November 24th, 2007 Posted in High School Football, High School Playoffs
North Gaston traveled over to Anson Co. for their third round game. North Gaston got off to a quick start as they scored two early touchdowns in the first quarter. Anson Co. turned around and answered both of those scores as they score on two touchdown runs. One came from a sweep to the right side with the running back and the other came from a quarterback sneak. The half ended with the score tied at 14.
In the second half, Anson kept the momentum they had built up in the first half and scored first in the second half on yet another touchdown run. After giving up twenty one unanswered points, North Gaston found the same answer that has got them this far in the playoffs and that was running back Princeton Brooks. Brooks got the hand off and started left before cutting it up the middle and broke through the line and was nearly untouched for a big touchdown of over thirty yards. That tied the score up going into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter with the game on the line, North Gaston was able to score and keep Anson from scoring to give them the victory 28-21 and advancing them to the western regional finals to play Asheville, who upset the number one seed Carver.
