2A Preview and Notes

Northside looks to stay unbeaten in their third round match up with East Duplin. East Duplin is a fourteen seed upsetting Goldsboro in the first round the three seed and North Brunswick in the second round the six seed. It will be tough for them to keep the streak alive with them taking on the two seed of Northside. Northside defeated conference foe SW Onslow last week 27-7. Joe Womack ran 10 times for 65 yards with 2 TDs and passed for 61 yards with a TD. Tyler Wiiter ran 17 times for 107 yards with a TD. Donte Moss ran 9 times for 71 yards. Rhashawn Burress caught a TD pass and had an interception on defense.

South Columbus takes on the defending champs of Burlington Cummings. Burlington Cummings drew a twelve seed and have taken out the five and four seeds in the first and second round repectively. To keep their hopes alive of repeating they will have to defeat the one seed this week in an undefeated South Columbus team. South Columbus shut out a good Bunn team last week by a score of 36-0. Justin Duncan completed 10 of 17 passes for 147 yards with 4 TDs. Buster James, Ethan Farmer, and Dakota Piver caught TD passes. Justin Smith ran 13 times for 110 yards with a TD and caught a TD pass.

East Lincoln takes their high octane offense to face a red hot Newton Conover team. These two teams met to open the season and Newton Conover outlasted East Lincoln 21-19 in overtime. East Lincoln defeated West Davidson last Friday getting a nice performance from Josh Wilson, who ran for 124 yards and three touchdowns. After a slow start Newton Conover is on an impressive six game winning streak. Newton Conover held off a pesky Maiden team 28-21 getting a touchdown from Devon Danner on the ground.

Wilkes Central hosts Lincolnton in a third round match up. Lincolnton is on an eight game winning streak after defeating Brevard by a score of 35-3. Adam Thompson completed 9 of 13 passes for 203 yards with 4 TDs. C.J. Wilson ran 10 times for 72 yards and caught 4 passes for 71 yards with a TD. Demery Brewer, Dominique Pugh, and Tevin Avery caught TD passes, while Nate Wright ran for a score. Wilkes Central defeated Atkins this past Friday. They are led on the ground by Leo Guevera, and Tyrone Gibbons as both players have over 1200 yards on the season.

The State Championship game is set for December 8, 2007 at Carter-Finley Stadium, in Raleigh at 3:30 pm.
