3A Preview and Notes

Southern Wayne travels to take on an undefeated Rocky Mount. Southern Wayne collected their third playoff win in school history by knocking off Southern Lee 28-19. Kelvin Flow rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns, while Tristan Bass rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns as both were over the 100-yard mark before halftime. Rocky Mount destroyed South Granville by a score of 52-0. Marquavis Alston ran 12 times for 117 yards with 3 TDs, while Derek Hagans ran 7 times for 72 yards and a TD. Jacobi Jenkins returned an interception for a score, while Brian Goodwin returned a punt for a score and T. Marshall ran for another score.

Western Alamance looks to stay unbeaten as they take on Bertie. Bertie won a close one against West Craven by a score of 20-13. Desmond Williams accounted for 247 yards and ran for 2 score. Kevin Swain ran for another score. Western Alamance’s balance attack helped them defeat Hertford Co. by a score of 37-10. Billy Williamson ran 12 times for 80 yards. Donald Britt completed 10 of 18 passes for 198 yards and 2 TDs, while also rushing for 2 scores. Levon Curtis caught 7 passes for 157 yards with 2 TDs. Kenneth Lindsey also had a rushing touchdown.

Anson Co. hosts North Gaston in this third round match up. North Gaston has a high powered offensive attack led by quarterback A.J. Blue and running back Princeton Brooks. North Gaston defeated West Rowan 35-22 as Princeton Brooks ran 15 times for 165 yards with 2 TDs. A.J. Blue ran 17 times for 75 yards with a TD and passed for 62 yards and 2 TDs. Jordan Potter and Darius Edwards caught TD passes. Anson Co. defeated Franklin to advance to the third round. Anson Co. is led by quarterback Dennis Rorie.

Carver hosts Asheville for a chance to advance to the regional finals. Asheville shut out Statesville with the help of Rahkeem Morgan, who ran 16 times for 144 yards and Greg Ray, who ran 22 times for 115 yards with 3 TDs. Carver defeated West Iredell 34-7 as David McIntyre ran 12 times for 101 yards with 2 TDs and caught a TD pass. Dequan Holder ran for 119 yards with a TD. Turner Faulk threw a TD pass and Bryce Sherman ran for another score.

The State Championship game is set for December 8, 2007 at Kenan Stadium, in Chapel Hill at 11:00 am.
