  • NC School of Science and Math won the 2007 NCHSAA 1A soccer championship, beating East Montgomery 1-0.

Both the NCSSM and East Montgomery web sites linked above will have photo and video highlights added over the weekend, and Matt Beeman may have a detailed game summary. Here is the capsule from the NCHSAA:

Junior midfielder Parris Smallwood scored the only goal of the game to lift the Durham North Carolina School of Science and Math to a 1-0 victory over East Montgomery in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A men¹s soccer championship on Friday at the Durham Bulls Soccer Stadium at the WRAL Soccer Center.

The game’s lone goal came in the 57th minute of action after a scoreless first half in which East Montgomery had a couple of good scoring opportunities. The Unicorns’ Ken Addison, who was chosen as the championship Most Valuable Player, dribbled down the right side and then delivered a timely cross that Smallwood put away for the game winner.

Both teams were making their first appearances in the NCHSAA finals. The Unicorns finished the season at 19-4-1 while East Montgomery lost for only the second time all year against 22 wins and a tie.
