    2A Preview and Notes

  • SW Onslow, the seven seed, against Northside, the two seed, is the best second round match up in the east. In one of the most anticipated match ups of the season other than Butler vs. Independence, Northside won the first match up back on Oct. 19, by a score of 28-7. Northside is led by quarterback Joe Womack and running back Tyler Witter. SW Onslow is led by the duo of Jamal S. Williams and Rico Magwood.
  • West Davidson, the two seed, against East Lincoln, the ten seed, is the best second round match up in the west. East Lincoln has won five straight games, and routed Monroe 54-20 last week. West Davidson lost two straight games entering the playoffs, but beat Mountain Heritage 42-8 last week.
  • Their are some great match ups in this bracket. Bunn vs. South Columbus, Cummings vs. West Bladen, Maiden vs. Newton Conover, and Lincolnton vs. Brevard.
  • Licolnton travels to take on Brevard in the second round. Both teams come in playing well after slow starts. Lincolnton has won seven straight after losing four of its first five games. Brevard has won six straight games after a four-game losing streak.
  • Players to keep an eye on: Brandon Barnes, athlete - Bunn, Daniel King, running back - East Duplin, Josh Balloon, running back - North Brunswick, Donte Moss, athlete - Northside, Leo Guevera and Tyrone Gibbons, running backs - Wilkes Central, Adrian Forney, running back - East Lincoln, CJ Wilson, running back - Lincolnton, Justin Sizemore, quarterback - Maiden, and Omar Stewart, quarterback - Burlington Cummings.
  • The State Championship game is set for December 8, 2007 at Carter-Finley Stadium, in Raleigh at 3:30 pm.
