    3A Preview and Notes

  • Hertford Co., the nine seed, against Western Alamance, the one seed, is the best second round match up in the east. Hertford Co. comes in to this game off a first round victory over White Oak, while Western Alamance defeated Morehead. Western Alamance is undefeated on the year and Hertford Co. has lost to three playoff teams.
  • North Gaston, the six seed, against West Rowan, the three seed, is the best second round match up in the west. North Gaston lost two games on the season and both are playoff teams in Charlotte Catholic and South Point. North Gaston has a high powered ground attack with running back Princeton Brooks and quarterback A.J. Blue. West Rowan has one loss on the year coming at the hands of West Iredell. They have a nice ground game of their own led by sophomore running back K.P. Parks.
  • Other good second round match ups: South Granville at Rocky Mount, West Craven at Bertie, North Buncombe at Anson Co., West Iredell at Carver, and Statesville at Asheville.
  • West Iredell comes into this game off a victory over T.W. Andrews and Carver comes in off a win over E.E. Waddell. West Iredell is led by running back Bobby Morrison, who has 1,744 yards and 18 touchdowns and quarterback Jared Thompson, who has thrown for 1,476 yards and over 14 touchdowns. Carver is also led by their running back Bryce Sherman, who has 1,197 yards and 19 touchdowns.
  • Players to keep an eye on: Brooks and Blue - North Gaston, Parks - West Rowan, Morrison - West Iredell, Randy Pressley, running back - North Buncombe, Ian Bosley, running back - South Granville, Andre Shephard, running back - Statesville, Brett Mooring, quarterback - West Craven, Donald Britt, quarterback - Western Alamance, and Rahkeem Morgan, quarterback/cornerback - Asheville
  • The State Championship game is set for December 8, 2007 at Kenan Stadium, in Chapel Hill at 11:00 am.
