  • Grimsley traveled down to Huntersville to take on North Meck in the western regional 4A soccer championship, and emerged with a 1-0 victory over the defending western champion.

This was a defensive match that had a lot of action in the first half, but no scoring until the second half. Grimsley scored late in the second half on a David Dupont header off a throw-in, and held on to take the 1-0 victory. North Meck played most of the game down one man, but battled valiantly in their attempt to play in a third straight state soccer championship in coach Marc Calderone’s final season. Grimsley played superb soccer, controlling the tempo and the ball for most of the game, and advances to play in the state championship soccer match for the first time since 1993.

Grimsley will take on Broughton in the 2007 4A NCHSAA soccer championship - Broughton beat Green Hope to advance.
