For North Carolina high school soccer fans, the regional finals should look very familiar. In the 4A & 3A classifications, last year’s regional champions have returned to attempt to earn another trip to the state championship game. Jacksonville (3A) and North Mecklenburg (4A) will be seeking their 3rd consecutive trip to the state championship, while Lake Norman (3A) and Broughton (4A) will be seeking their 2nd consecutive visit to the final. Charlotte Catholic (3A) is no stranger to the regional final, having been a stalwart of the 2A final from 1990-2004, earning a place in the final in 12 out of 15 years, but they are still trying to earn their first berth since they moved to the 3A classification. Cardinal Gibbons and Swansboro continue their dominance of the 2A East. Cardinal Gibbons won the region in 2005 & 2006, ending Swansboro run of 7 consecutive 2A East championships dating back to 1998.
