    4AA preview and notes

  • Each team was allowed to drop one non-conference game to get their record down to 10 regular season games for seeding purposes.
  • Leesville Road, the seven seed, against SE Raleigh, the ten seed, is the best match up in the east of all the first round games. Leesville Road has lost just one game on the year, against #2 seed and undefeated WF-Rolesville. If both teams win their first game, they will get a rematch in the second round.
  • Grimsley, the eight seed, against Hopewell, the nine seed, is the best match up in the west of all the first round games. Grimsley has lost one game on the year against Page, the seven seed, and Hopewell lost one regular season game to West Charlotte, the one seed.
  • Independence is the ten seed in the west bracket after a loss to Butler in the final week of the regular season. Independence is the defending state champion and has won the last seven state titles. However, with only one loss to Butler, and despite beating West Charlotte, the one seed, Independence fell all the way to the ten seed. Independence and Butler will get their rematch way too early in the second round if both teams win their first round games.
  • Butler lost to West Charlotte and East Meck, but still got the two seed because they beat Independence to win their conference.
  • No teams in the West finished the regular season undefeated, but three teams in the East finished the regular season undefeated.
  • The State Championship game is set for December 8, 2007 at Groves Stadium in Winston Salem at 7:30 pm.
