Cardinal Gibbons wins 2007 NC high school 2-A volleyball championship

Cardinal Gibbons volleyball defeated Starmount volleyball to win their third straight high school 2A volleyball championship.
Highlights will be posted tonight on team web sites and the playoff site. From the NCHSAA: the final championship of the day saw Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons defeat Boonville Starmount to win the 2007 2-A volleyball championship in three straight, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-20.
Cardinal Gibbons earned its third consecutive NCHSAA crown and ran its record to 31-2 overall, while Starmount fell to 31-4. Cardinal Gibbons did not lose to a NC high school team all season.
Katie Kabbes of Gibbons, who is the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year and has signed to play at Penn State, was the Most Valuable Player of the championship for the second consecutive year. She had 21 kills and 10 digs to lead the Phoenix.
Taylor Doss recorded six kills for Starmount and teammate Jana Matthews had 15 digs for the Rams.
