The Grimsley Whirlies walked on to the field at Jamieson Stadium undefeated and ranked #7 in the week 9 4A football poll. In fact, Grimsley had not lost a regular season football game in over two years. However, the Page Pirates were determined to paint Jamieson Stadium with Page red, and they did just that, beating Grimsley 24-23.
With about a minute left, Page QB Will Newman hit Erik Barnard for a 25-yard touchdown on a well executed screen pass that would combine with the ensuing Matt Milisor PAT to be the game winner. Barnard had over 100 receiving yards on the game, while Newman passed for almost 200 and rushed for close to 100. Grimsley tailback Keenan Allen was electric in the losing effort, involved in all three Grimsley touchdowns, scoring one on the ground, another via a pass reception, and throwing a halfback option touchdown pass.
Page improves to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the Metro 4A conference while Grimsley falls to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the Metro 4A.
