East Rowan football has come a long way this season, but West Rowan showed tonight that the North Piedmont still goes though Falcon Stadium in Mount Ulla.

West pulled away to beat East 29-10, shutting down the explosive East offense in the second half. The West Rowan defensive line limited sensational sophomore back Thomas Lowe to less than 10 yards in the second half, while West’s own sensational sophomore running back, K.P. Parks toted the rock for over 200 yards and scored two touchdowns, despite being unable to practice all week with a knee injury.

East started the scoring on a Matt Mitchell touchdown following a West Rowan fumble, one of four lost fumbles for West on the night. However, West responded with a touchdown drive, capped off by a K.P. Parks 20-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7-7. West’s Justin Avery then dominated play for a few minutes on both sides of the ball. Avery intercepted a Shawn Eagle pass to stop a promising East Rowan drive, and then hauled in a 43-yard touchdown pass from Brantley Horton to give West the 14-7 lead. East cut the score to 14-10 on a Barnes field goal, but West responded with a long drive right before halftime, culminating with a K.P. Parks touchdown run, to hit half with a 20-10 lead. Both defenses played very well in the scoreless third quarter, and the West defensive line in particular was dominant. West added their final touchdown in the fourth on a Horton touchdown run, and tacked on a late safety to finish off the 29-10 victory.

West remains tied with other teams at the top of the North Piedmont depending on other results tonight, while East will fall out of the first place logjam at the top of the North Piedmont.
