Athens Drive celebrated their homecoming in grand fashion, destroying the Fuquay-Varina Bengals 49-21 in a key Tri-Eight 4A game. Two-time defending champion Fuquay-Varina had dominated teams with their defense this year, but they could not stop the Athens Drive offensive machine that has been living in the endzone all year.

The Bengals started the game well - a Kevin Brandt to Derek Black touchdown capping off their opening possession. The response from the Athens Drive Jaguars was a glimpse of what was to come all game long. The Jaguars quickly moved down the field and Nick DeMuro hit T.J. Kornegay for a 56-yard touchdown pass. DeMuro would finish with over 550 yards passing, five touchdowns through the air, and two more on the ground. Kornegay would finish with almost 250 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The Brandt to Black combination was solid as well - hooking up for two touchdowns and almost 150 yards. However, that was almost all of the Bengals offense. DeMuro meanwhile hit targets all night long, and they consistently racked up yards after the catch - Melendez, Barren, and Harward each gaining at least 70 yards through the air, and Melendez and Barren scoring touchdowns.

The game was Fuquay-Varina’s first loss of the season, while Athens Drive improved to 7-0.
