NC High School Football Week 7 - Preview and Predictions
September 28th, 2007 Posted in High School FootballWith the conference season heating up, week 7 of high school football is full of important games. Starting in the North Piedmont conference, we have two matchups that will shake up the top of the conference standings. West Iredell (one loss) travels to unbeaten West Rowan, and two North Piedmont teams with only one loss each will clash as Mooresville travels to Northwest Cabarrus. Week 7 in the Southwestern 4A conference features two matchups of football teams undefeated in the conference. South Mecklenburg will travel to Independence and Providence will host Butler. South Mecklenburg football has won four straight games and they look to upset #1 ranked (week 7, 4A poll) Independence. Charlotte Christian travels to Charlotte Latin in our game of the week; a matchup of two unbeaten schools that have been dominant this football season.
West Iredell vs. West Rowan
West Rowan football video highlight
West Iredell takes their balanced offensive attack to West Rowan, who has a very explosive ground game of their own. West Iredell is coming off a win over South Rowan by a score of 27-9. West Iredell was led by a powerful running attack of Bobby Morrison, who had 191 yards and three touchdowns and an air attack led by Jared Thompson, who was 13 of 21 for 165 yards. West Rowan is led by sophomore sensation, K.P. Parks, who has 1,200+ yards with 19 touchdowns. Can West Iredell be the first team to stop West Rowan or will they continue to roll? My Prediction is West Rowan 38 - West Iredell 21.
Mooresville vs. Northwest Cabarrus

Mooresville is coming off a nice victory over previously undefeated East Rowan, now has to travel to Northwest Cabarrus. Mooresville is dangerous on the ground with star running back Jishawn Pinkston, who is coming off a four touchdown night against East Rowan as he scored from 59, 3, 4, and 62 yards. Northwest Cabarrus has a strong, multi-dimensional offense as well. Jeremy Cannon directs the offense as he has passed for 800+ yards and 6 touchdowns. Cannon likes to throw it to star receiver Graham Wright, as Wright has 370 yards with 3 touchdowns. Does Northwest have enough offense to beat Mooresville? My Prediction is Mooresville 28 - Northwest Cabarrus 17.
South Mecklenburg vs. Independence
South Mecklenburgh football video highlight
South Mecklenburg takes the trip over to Independence in this Southwestern 4A match up. South Mecklenburg is riding a four game winning streak after losing their opener to Charlotte Catholic, but then reeling of the four wins, including last week’s thrilling win over East Mecklenburg. South Meck has a powerful defense, and nice weapons on offense with Tim Palmer having 500+ yards on the ground with 10 touchdowns, Spencer Shuey, and QB Jay Yokeley. Independence comes in with a powerful offense of their own as sophomore quarterback, Anthony Carrothers, has found his groove in the offense after starting this season with a sore shoulder. Carrothers has passed for 946 yards and 7 touchdowns, hooking up with Javon Rembert on a few of those touchdowns. Independence also has a very strong ground attack led by Rod Chisholm, who has around 500 yards with 13 touchdowns. My Prediction is Independence 35 - South Mecklenburg 28.
Butler vs. Providence
Butler football video highlight
Butler is coming off a win and has to travel to Providence in a match up of two teams unbeaten in conference play. Butler is led by Jacob Charest, who has thrown for 1400 yards and 19 touchdowns. Butler also has weapons on defense with Spencer Adams and Robert Blanton. Blanton has 4 interceptions so far on the season. Providence has been getting pretty good play from their quarterback as well as Justin Siems has passed for 1230 yards and 7 touchdowns. His main target just might be Braxton Deaver, who has 477 yards receiving with 5 touchdowns. My Prediction is Butler 42 - Providence 30.
Local Replay’s Game of the Week - Charlotte Christian (5-0) vs. Charlotte Latin (5-0)
Charlotte Latin football video highlight
In a private school matchup of powers, Charlotte Christian travels to Charlotte Latin. These two teams have dominated their opponents so far this season as they have got great play from their quarterbacks. Christian Christian’s Luke Bard and Charlotte Latin’s Branden Hanson have led their offenses through the air. Bard has passed for 800+ yards with 12 touchdowns and Hanson has thrown for almost 1200 yards with 14 touchdowns. This game should be an exciting, well-played shoot out. My Prediction is Charlotte Latin 35 - Charlotte Christian 28.
**Updates: Tri Eight and Greater Neuse interesting games**
Athens Drive at Cary
Undefeated Athens Drive football travels to Cary to battle Cary football tonight. Cary has alternated wins and losses so far this season, and is looking to carry some momentum from last week’s blow out of Lee County into tonight’s Tri Eight football conference game. Cary will need to be at their best to have a shot at an excellent Athens Drive football team that squeaked by West Johnston in week one and then rolled over their next four opponents.
Smithfield-Selma at Southeast Raleigh
Smithfield-Selma football seeks to continue their undefeated season tonight in a Greater Neuse conference matchup. In their way is a team that is probably the toughest all-around team on their schedule so far, Southeast Raleigh football. Southeast Raleigh has only one loss (at Cary). Since that lost, Southeast Raleigh has pitched two straight shutouts.
