NC High School Football Week 6 - Preview and Predictions

Football video highlight - Butler vs West Charlotte.

Week 6 of high school football in the western part of the state presents some nice match ups. Two of the interesting games in Charlotte feature a Butler football team trying to get back on track as they travel to take on an undefeated Ardrey Kell football team, and undefeated Hopewell taking on the West Charlotte team that beat Butler last week. Week six also features a match up of two good football teams undefeated in North Piedmont conference play as East Rowan, with a record of 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference, travels to take on Mooresville, who is 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference. Another nice football match up has Shelby traveling to take on a tough Brevard team. In the Rocky River Conference, two good 3-1 teams in Monroe and Mount Pleasant will open up conference play against each other.

Monroe vs. Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant hosts Monroe in a Rocky River conference game. Mount Pleasant would be undefeated but they had to forfeit their first game, but since then they have taken down 3A defending champion Concord in an early game. Mount Pleasant is led by their defense as they were giving up an average of only 3.3 points per game going into last week’s game against 4A - Jay M. Robinson and they won 35-6. Their defense is going to look to stand a test as they take on Monroe who has scored 184 points on the year. Monroe is led by quarterback Jake Sanders, as he has thrown for over 550 yards and 5 touchdowns. Sanders’ favorite target is Divac Stanton as he has over 300 yards receiving with 3 touchdowns. They are also good on special teams as Jameze Massey has 2 punt returns for touchdowns. Will Mount Pleasant’s defense be able to contain Monroe’s offense? My Prediction is Mount Pleasant 21 - Monroe 7.

East Rowan vs. Mooresville
East Rowan travels to Mooresville in a North Piedmont 3A conference match up as both teams have yet to lose a conference game. East Rowan has a nice balanced offense with quarterback Shawn Eagle having over 550 yards passing on the year with 6 touchdowns, and a strong running game as Thomas Lowe has over 700 yards on the ground with 9 touchdowns. East Rowan can get the job done on defense as Wayne Parker has 5 interceptions on the year. Mooresville is coming off a 34-6 victory over North Iredell last Friday. Mooresville has scored at least 3 touchdowns in each game so far this year, and their only loss was a thriller at A.L. Brown. Mooresville’s scoring has centered on running back Jishaun Pinkston, as Pinkston has 6 touchdowns on the ground, while rushing for over 400 yards, and wide receiver Jamel Allison, who has 5 touchdowns receiving and has been on the receiving end of 200 yards from his quarterback. My Prediction is East Rowan 28 - Mooresville 21.

Hopewell vs. West Charlotte
Hopewell has to travel and take on a hot West Charlotte team that is coming off an upset victory over a nationally ranked Butler team. Hopewell is coming off a 28-0 victory over East Gaston. Hopewell was led by Darius Howze who had 118 yards rushing with two touchdowns, while also getting a 57 yard touchdown run from Rashad Fletcher and a 46 yard touchdown pass from Chris Gilbert to David Russell. West Charlotte beat Butler 20-14, and they are led by their quarterback Darius Thomas. Thomas leads all quarterbacks in North Carolina with over 1500 yards passing with 16 touchdowns, while also running for some touchdowns as well. My Prediction is West Charlotte 28 - Hopewell 14.

Local Replay’s Game of the Week - Butler vs. Ardrey Kell
Butler football coming off a loss, now has to travel to undefeated Ardrey Kell. Butler has had the best offense production through out the season but could only score 14 against West Charlotte. Jacob Charest has over 1200 yards passing on the season with 17 touchdowns. Butler also has a two headed monster on defense as they have the best safety tandem in the nation with Spencer Adams and Robert Blanton. Blanton has 4 interceptions on the year. Butler had a hard time stopping West Charlotte’s dual threat quarterback and they will have to try and stop Ardrey Kell’s dual threat quarterback this week. Ardrey Kell’s Brad Wornick is a playmaker at the quarterback position having passed for over 600 yards and rushed for 500 yards with 8 touchdowns. Will that be enough offense against Butler? My Prediction is Butler 35 - Ardrey Kell 21.
