Four different football teams played one good game in Salisbury at Ludwig Stadium tonight. The Salisbury Hornets looked as bleak as the wet weather in the first half against the 3A defending champion, Eastern Randolph, but played like an entirely different football team in the second half, coming from down 25-0 at half to win 29-25.
Salisbury pounded the pigskin on the wet grass to come from 25 points down, gaining over 200 yards on the ground, with almost all of them coming in the second half. Dario Hamilton and Robbie Pulliam did most of the rugged running, combining for over 150 rushing yards, with each rushing for a touchdown. Salisbury’s first two touchdowns came on QB Ibn Ali’s TD run and a key Demetrius Almond interception return.
The first half was almost the exact opposite, featuring the other Salisbury and Eastern Randolph teams. Salisbury could get nothing going on offense, and Eastern Randolph’s offense executed effortlessly, rolling for three touchdowns behind QB Zebulon Milliner and RB Khyri Crawford. Milliner threw a TD to Crawford on a screen pass and ran for another, while Crawford added his second touchdown on the ground late in the second half to extend the Eastern Randolph lead to 25-0. Eastern Randolph’s other five points came on a field goal and a safety.
Salisbury football improves to 4-1 on the season and Eastern Randolph fell to 2-3 on the year.
