Charlotte’s David Butler High School quarterback Jacob Charest intends to continue his football career at Illinois. Charest has already thrown for close to 1000 yards in Butler’s first three football games. The current Illinois starting quarterback is sophomore QB Isiah “Juice” Williams. Williams showed in his freshman year that he can make plays both on the ground and through the air. Redshirt freshman QB Eddie McGee has also seen early season action for the Illini due to a Williams injury. Butler’s Jacob Charest can potentially look forward to one day throwing to outstanding WR Arrelious Benn, one of the top Illinois recruits, and already leading the Illini in receiving yards as a freshman.
Butler is off to a dominating start to the 2007 high school football year, and we think this will be the first year in seven years that NC crowns a new 4A football champion. Of course, the road will still go through Butler’s Charlotte neighbor, Independence High School. However, Butler is stacked on both side of the ball, including a ferocious defense that includes one of the best defensive backfields in the nation led by Robert Blanton (verbal commit to Notre Dame) and Spencer Adams.
