Independence lost their winning streak last week but bounced back this week with a convincing win over West Charlotte. The Independence Patriots used 28 first quarter points to help defeat the West Charlotte Lions at home, 49-32. Independence’s running back Rod Chisholm, a transfer from West Charlotte this season, made his presence felt against his former team, scoring on the Patriots’ first two touchdowns. Chisholm scored on a 50 yard reception for his first touchdown on a pass from quarterback Anthony Carrothers. Chisholm and Carrothers hooked up again on a 23 yard reception for a touchdown to give Independence a 14-0 lead. Carrothers would break free for a 49 yard run to score their third touchdown. West Charlotte came out in the second half with some to prove, scoring multiple times on the Patriots defense, but a total of five turnovers helped the Patriots preserve their win.
Carrothers threw for four touchdowns and ran for one. Chisholm caught two touchdown passes and ran for another one to help lead his new team over his former team. West Charlotte was led by Darius Thomas as he matched Carrothers with four touchdown passes and running for one, but the turnovers and early deficit seem to be too much for West Charlotte to overcome as they move to 3-1 on the season and Independence moves to 2-1.
