Elder snaps Independence win streak

It had been 109 games and exactly seven years since Independence High School had lost a high school football game. Elder High School (Cincinnati) now has a longer winning streak, as Elder stopped the second longest high school winning streak of all time, beating Independence 41-34 in overtime at the Kirk Herbstreit Challenge in Cincinnati last night.

We think Independence’s seven consecutive NC 4A high school championships is also in jeopardy - not that Independence isn’t terrific again this year, but Charlotte’s David Butler High School football team looks like the best team in the state, and therefore one of the best in the country so far this season. Check out some of the video clips on the Butler web site linked above from their domination of Vance this week.

Independence football opened their season by thrashing Olympic High.
