Week 3 actually started a night early this week in some parts of North Carolina, including Durham where Garner crushed Durham Riverside 40-13. Garner moves to 3-0 on the season, and is looking very strong with a defense that consistently gets turnovers, and an offense that featured the ground attack the first two weeks of the season, and opened up the passing game behind quarterback Kameron Smith last night. Garner beat Middle Creek last week in their second game of the season, and Garner defeated Millbrook back in week one.

Most of the rest of the state’s high school football teams are in action tonight as usual, including these interesting games:
Mooresville football travels down to Kannapolis to take on A.L. Brown. Mooresville is playing excellent football, but has not won at Kannapolis in decades, and A.L. Brown is playing good football as usual, coming home after a victory at rival South Rowan.
Davie County, coming off an emotional, last second loss against rival West Rowan, will need to rebound quickly if they are going to break Thomasville’s 38-game winning streak. This is a 4A (Davie) vs 1A (Thomasville) game, but a 38-game win streak is a 38-game win streak.
Leesville Road plays at Apex in a clash of early season undefeated teams. Leesville Road comes off an impressive win last week on the road against Cary. Apex meanwhile beat Broughton last week.
North Johnston plays their third consecutive game on the road this evening, facing West Johnston. The road has been kind so far to the North Johnston Panthers, as they’ve opened with a win at North Lenoir last week, and a season opening win at Union. However, a third consecutive road win will be tough to get - West Johnston is are a much larger 4A school (North is a 1A), making this another very interesting 1A vs 4A game, similar to the Davie County vs Thomasville game.
One of the most interesting North Carolina high school football games won’t even take place within state borders. Independence football takes their nation’s best 109-game winning streak up to Ohio. Independence will face a tough challenge in the 2007 Kirk Herbstreit Challenge - Cincinnati’s Elder High School.
