Friday night high school football - week 3
(refer to this post for more NC week 3 football previews)
North Carolina has some good match-ups in week 3 of high school football action, and one key game outside of state lines, as Independence takes their consecutive win record to a national stage as they travel up to Ohio to play in the Kirk Herbstreit Challenge against Cincinnati’s Elder High School.
The first match-up that will be covered by LocalReplay features the team that will be Independence’s toughest challenger this year, Butler High School. Butler is led by three talented players that are all major D1 prospects. On defense, Robert Blanton, who has already verbally committed to play at Notre Dame, and his running mate Spencer Adams are apart of a dangerous defensive backfield that might be the best in the nation. On offense, Jacob Charest is the leader as he controls the game from the quarterback position, leading Butler to 524 yards in the opener. Vance is led by Lavardrick Farrar on offense as he has rushed for around 200 yards and a couple of scores. On defense, Isaac McReynolds has amassed 19 tackles with two interceptions and three pass deflections. Butler should win this game playing at home.
Another match-up to look forward to is the Hopewell versus Myers Park football game. Myers Park is coming off a loss where they couldn’t get the offense going like they did in the first game. Myers Park’s running game is led by Eric Williams, who has gained 337 yards on the ground. Myers Park needs to control the game with their ground attack if they are to get back on track. Hopewell got a win in its opener as they had three runners that gained over 50 yards each, led by Chris Gilbert. My prediction is that Myers Park’s running game will be more explosive than Hopewell’s, and they will come out on top.
West Montgomery has started off their season by scoring 40+ points in each of its first two games. Albemarle is trying to get back to the championship tradition that they had a few years ago. This game is going to be played at West Montgomery and if they keep the ground game going then it could be a long night for Albemarle. West Montgomery is led by Vince Jordan, who does it all. From lining up at running back to leading the defense, Vince makes plays all over the field. Albemarle has a good ground game of their own as junior running back Jay Jay Harris has accumulated 250+ yards with a couple of touchdowns. This could be a close game if Albemarle’s defense can stop West Montgomery’s high powered offense, but I see West Montgomery coming out on top.
