East Rowan football tops North Rowan 27-14

East Rowan interception, touchdown, two-point conversion video highlight
East Rowan beat North Rowan tonight 27-14. North was up 14-13 at half, but East owned the second half, forcing critical turnovers on defense, and making big plays on offense.
East drew first blood on a Shawn Eagle to Trey Holmes touchdown pass, but North Rowan’s QB Cameron Wood scored on the ground, and then Wood hit Bryson Gaymon for a TD strike to give North Rowan a 14-10 lead with 57 seconds remaining in the first half. It was the type of late first half score that gives a team momentum going into the half. However, East made each second count, starting with a good kickoff return and finishing with a Kenny Barnes field goal, and narrowed the North lead to a single point heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, after a key Trey Holmes interception, East QB Shawn Eagle ran in a TD and followed it with a two-point conversion pass to give East a 21-14 lead. North Rowan had a couple good chances following East Rowan turnovers to get back in the game, but the East defense held strong both times. In particular the East Rowan pass defense stiffened up in the second half, and head coach Brian Hinson highlighted their second half play as a key in the victory. In the fourth, Thomas Lowe converted a key third and three on the ground, and then exploded for a long TD run on the next play to give East the 27-14 victory.
The Mustangs have now defeated Salisbury and North Rowan in consecutive weeks. Not sure how many years since that last happened, but it was the first time in 16 years that East beat North, and the standing room only crowd at Mustangs stadium was loving it.
