Garner and Leesville Road both started slow but finished very strong to move to 2-0 on the 2007 football season.
Garner football was looking to carry their strong second half play against Millbrook last week into tonight’s football game against Middle Creek, but instead the game was very similar to their first game - slow start, big finish, with Garner putting up 28 second-half points and gaining the 38-17 victory. Garner gets some payback for last year’s playoff loss to Middle Creek, and moves to 2-0 on the young season. Game photos from Middle Creek vs Garner are here on the Garner TeamCard
Cary was impressive in their shutout of Broughton last week, but Leesville Road looked like a state championship contender caliber football team tonight, crushing Cary 39-15. It looked like Cary had a shot to pull off the early season upset, as the Cary offense played well in the first half with Danny Feracho scoring two more TDs (four total through two games). However, Leesville Road stayed close in the first half, getting two Thomas Wilson to Taylor Gentry TD passes, and then exploded for 24 points in the second half. Garner defeated Middle Creek both games in 2006: 40-15 in week #2 and 20-7 on Nov. 10th in the first round of the NCHSSA 4A play-offs. But I would agree the Trojans only produced one half of football for the 2nd straight week….but it was a pretty good one!!
