The Garner High School Trojans, considered to be one of the top 10 4A high school football teams in NC, opened their 2007 football season with a victory over the Millbrook High School Wildcats on the road at Wildcats Stadium in Raleigh on Friday night.

The Wildcats pounced first when QB Brian Kass ran it in from 18 yards out to stake Millbrook to a first quarter 6-0 lead (Millbrook missed the extra point). The Millbrook defense meanwhile was playing well, keeping the powerful Garner offense out of the end zone until late in the second quarter. Garner RB Darrice Payton finished off that long drive with a 13-yard touchdown run, and Garner took a 7-6 lead into the locker room.

The Trojans came out hot in the second half, scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away. A Kameron Smith to Aston Anglin-Stone 41-yard touchdown play started the third quarter outburst. On the next Millbrook offensive series, Darwin Williams took an interception to the house. Payton then extended the lead to 28-6, racing down the sideline for a 61-yard touchdown.
