Cherryville Legion smoked host Albany Legion 15-4 in their opening game of the 2007 American Legion Southeast Baseball Regional Championships in Albany, Georgia. Cherryville beat Wayne County Legion to win the 2007 NC Legion Baseball Championship last week, and came out hot vs Albany to take a 7-0 lead after three innings. With ace pitcher Chris Henderson on the mound, Cherryville Legion cruised from there, as Albany would get no closer than within six runs. Henderson earned the win, as he did to close out the NC state championships, and also had two hits and two RBI. Payden Houser had three hits and three RBI for Cherryville, Paul Finger and Jake Watts scored three runs each, and Cherryville’s Logan Richard hit the only home run of the game.

Cherryville will next take on the Tennessee state champion, Columbia, Friday night in a winner’s bracket game. Columbia beat Alabama’s state champion on Thursday to advance.
