We will welcome Greg Baker to our blog this weekend, as he will be contributing stories on North Johnston High School football. Greg gave us the following tidbits as background on the North Johnston 2007 football team, coached by Tom Nelson:
North Johnston is two-time defending champions, winning the Carolina 1-A Conference Football Championship in 2005 and 2006.
North Johnston returns 16 starters, but lost last year’s starting QB and RB. Cliff Holloman will step in at quarterback, and a few backs will start the season sharing carries in the backfield. The offense will run most of their sets out of the Pro-I, behind a solid offensive line that will include Charlie Young, Spencer Hardison, Ben Watkins, Noah Abbott, and Josh Price.
The defense will be led by the experience of Michael Creech and Jacob Lewis, and will feature pre-season all-state selection Pierre Dickerson roaming the secondary.
The 2007 season theme is RNC (Remember (former teammate) Nick Creech). Nick was tragically killed in a car accident last year.
