NC American Legion State Playoffs On Deck
August 3rd, 2007 Posted in American Legion baseball
With area champion and seed determining wins by Wayne County Legion over Durham Legion, and by Randolph County Legion over Rowan County Legion, the opening schedule is finalized for the North Carolina American Legion Baseball State Playoffs. The NC Legion playoffs start Wednesday August 8th in Garner, NC. The playoffs are double elimination, running through August 12th. The opening day state playoff schedule:
NC American Legion baseball was very strong this year, so all are compelling games. Morehead City (last year’s state champion) facing off against Rowan County may be the most interesting opening day game; both were considered to be amongst the top three teams in the state for most of the season.
Rowan County was dominant in Area III, arguably the state’s top area this year, winning 39 games, and sweeping their first three playoff series. But Randolph County Legion came into the Area III championship series against Rowan as a very good and very hot team, and left even hotter. Randolph is a solid team from top to bottom, coached by Ronnie Pugh, and led by stars Neal Pritchard, Ben Bunting, and Justin Yow. Pritchard hit a walk-off game seven winning home run to lead Randolph over South Rowan Legion in the Area III semi-finals, and then hit two more home runs in game seven tonight against Rowan County legion, giving him 17 for the season. Some photo and video highlights from Randolph County are on the Randolph TeamCard, the Area III South Division All-Star TeamCard, and Randoph’s Ben Bunting also has a video highlight on this All-Star TeamCard from the NC State Games.
Rowan County Legion is managed by Jim Gantt and is led by a deep, talented pitching staff that includes aces Keegan Linza and Cy Young, and a solid lineup that features sluggers Weston Church, Trey Holmes, and Micah Jarrett, and spark plug Justin Roland. Rowan County photo and video highlights are on the Rowan County TeamCard.
