Glance back at AAU Nationals and Peek Ahead to American Legion State Playoffs

Summaries are below for the North Carolina teams playing at the AAU National Basketball Championships in Orlando over the past week (photo and video highlights for many of the NC teams as well as other teams across the country are linked to our AAU Nationals home page, and we still see more being posted by fans):

  • The NC Gaters, Garner Road Bulldogs, Charlotte Royals all played exceptional basketball, and emerged as the #1 seeds from their respective brackets before ultimately falling in championship playoff bracket play.
  • The Tar River Raptors, Carolina Crusaders, and Kappa Magic all played well to earn #2 seeds in pool play. The Crusaders only loss was to eventual national champion runner-up King of the Court. The Apex Force won two of three during pool play, but drew the #3 seed in a tough pool. The Raptors, Crusaders, and Magic lost Sunday playoff games to fall from championship contention.
  • The Charlotte Nets, United Celtics, and Gaters-Select all had their moments against some of the top AAU basketball competition in the country, but all placed no better than 3rd in their pools, so did not advance to championship bracket play.

    NC American Legion state playoff preview coming tomorrow. The state playoffs begin next week in Garner, NC, and will feature two of the teams that we’ve covered this year, and are widely considered as two of the favorites in a very strong field:
