Not taking any games lightly Rowan County Legion came out and stamped their ticket to the Area III finals and State Championship Playoffs by sweeping Kernersville Legion by a score of 11-3. The game was stopped after six complete innings due to the weather and playing conditions.

Rowan jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second, loading the bases on a Dobbins single, Kernersville fielding error on a sacrifice bunt attempt, and a free pass, and scoring the two lead runners on a fielder’s choice and a ground out. Rowan scored another run in the third as starting pitcher Weston Church helped himself out by singling and coming all the way around to score on a Micah Jarrett double.

In the fourth inning, Rowan started to pull away, scoring five more runs on a couple hits and a few fielding miscues, but the Kernersville highlight of the night, and one of the best fielding plays of the season, ended the inning. Micah Jarrett drove a pitch to deep center field. McKinney the center fielder races back to the fence leaps and makes a stellar grab, robbing Jarrett of a home run, and keeping Rowan from putting more runs on the board.

After the early Rowan hitting thunder, the rain and lightening came in the top half of the fifth and the game was delayed. After the delay, each team scored three runs before the game was finally called due to the bad playing conditions.

Rowan wins the series, sweeping the first four games. Rowan is the first team to win their Area III semi-final series and they wait the winner of South Rowan and Randolph County. South Rowan took the first two games of the series, and has since seen Randolph County take the next two games to even the series at two games.
