Championship Sunday - East Coast Invitational Basketball Tourney
July 15th, 2007 Posted in High School BasketballChampionship Sunday started off with the semi final games to see which two teams would play for the Championship. Our first match up was a rematch of this past years 3A State Championship game between Kinston High School (Kinston basketball photo and video highlights) and Concord High School (Concord basketball photo and video highlights). Kinston was looking to extract some revenge from their defeat last year. Kinston got off to a hot start and didn’t look back as they were lead by Donovan Ingram as he scored nine points in their 40-20 victory. Our second match up was between Dudley High School (Dudley high school photo and video highlights) and Ridgewood (FL) (Note: Ridgewood web site to be posted Monday). This match up went back and forth the entire game until the last seconds of the game. With the clock wounding down, the ball got in the hands of Derrick Zio at the top of the key and he shot as the time was running off the clock and as the horn sounds the ball banks in to break the tie at 43 and gave Ridgewood the victory with a score of 45-43. Alvin Satram led the way for Ridgewood as he sunk 3 three pointers.
In the championship game, Kinston kept its high pace offense in high gear as it jumped out to a 36-25 lead at the halftime break. In the second half, Kinston seem to slow down a little as Ridgewood started to heat up, but Kinston proved to be too much for Ridgewood as the final score was 64-59. Quinton Coples, a two sport star, who is being coveted by major D1 schools as a defensive end more than a basketball player led the way for Kinston with 22 points. Donovan Ingram added 17 points and Akeem Sutton pitched in with 11 points. Alvin Satram was on fire the entire game scoring 22 points as he did all he could for his team in a losing effort for Ridgewood.
