East Coast Invitational Basketball
July 14th, 2007 Posted in High School Men's BasketballThe East Coast Invitational tournament started Thursday with many of the top high school basketball teams in North Carolina competing, including:
Pool play came to an end with Dudley and Kinston leading Pool A with a 6-2 record and Dudley was awarded the top seed out of the Pool heading into the tournament. Pool B was led by North Mecklenburg with a 7-1 record. The four teams at the bottom of each bracket played in the play in game. Northside defeated White Oak to go on to face North Meck, where they almost upset the top team but lost with no seconds on the clock as North Meck sunk a free throw to end the tie. Hoggard defeated Richlands in the other play in game and then went on to get beat by Dudley. Other first round action, the hometown team Jacksonville upset the higher seeded Millbrook, Kinston handled West Rowan with ease, Vance defeated Ronald Reagan, the battle of the out of state teams with Ridgewood (FL) defeated Marlboro County (SC), Concord kept their hopes of alive with a win against East Chapel Hill, and Trinity defeated High Point Andrews in a battle of the triad.
In Second Round action, Kinston held on in a 36-34 win over Vance to earn their spot in the semi finals, Ridgewood (FL) ended the cinderella story of Jacksonville as they were too much in the end, Concord marched right into the semi finals by taking out North Meck by a score of 54-37, and the last team to earn a spot in the semi finals was Dudley with a convincing victory over Trinity by a score of 42-33. The final four teams who will battle it out Sunday are, defending 3A state champs of Concord, Kinston who was the 3A state runner up, Ridgewood (FL), and the perennial power of the triad known as Dudley.
The semi finals are at 10 am followed by the championship game at 1 pm.
