South beat Kannapolis 9 - 1 in a key division matchup to retain at least a tie for second place in the division. Daniel Wagner and pitcher Walker Snow were the co-players of the game. Snow went the distance, striking out nine, and only allowing one run. Wagner had two hits, including a second inning double that broke Brett Shore’s South Rowan Legion career hits record, two RBI, and two runs scored. After the game, Wagner said “it feels good - Shore was a buddy of mine, a good buddy, and he was rooting me on the whole time.” Snow added, “(Wagner’s) a great player - I played with both Shore and Wagner, and the thing about both of them is they always come out to the field ready to play”.

South jumped on the scoreboard right away, taking a 2 - 0 lead when Justin Lane scored on a Matt Ingold sacrifice play, and then Wagner scored on an RBI hit by Chase Deal. South expanded the lead to 4 - 0 in the second as Wagner’s record breaking double plated Shepherd and Lane. South continued to roll in the third as Deal and Corriher scored runs to make the lead 6 - 0. South scored three more in the fourth inning to take a commanding 9 - 0 lead on RBI hits from Basigner, Corriher, and Bostian.

Kannapolis scored their lone run in the fifth, as a Lawing base hit scored Lynch. But Snow was fantastic, allowing only that one run in the complete game victory, South’s second consecutive complete game pitching performance. Snow said “the team came out and played real well. The defense was excellent. It is easy to pitch when your offense is scoring that many runs.” Wagner added “it was a big game as far as standing go, and a win at home is always good.” South Rowan Legion, Stanly County, and Lexington Legion are all battling over the final week to try to earn a second or third place finish in the division, so that their playoff seeding will avoid a potential Rowan Legion series (one loss on the year) until the championships.
