West Seniors Win State Games Softball Gold Medal

The West Senior All-Star team swept the best of three series, winning the opener by a score of 5-0, and squeezing by East in game two 1-0.
Game 1, West 5 - East 0
The game was scoreless till the sixth inning when Chasity Covington (Central Cabarrus) led off the inning with a single. Brittany McKinney (West Forsyth) drove her in with a double, which was followed by a run scoring triple by Kristi Woodall (Hopewell). They scored three more runs in the seventh inning from three errors made by the East. The winning pitcher was Ashton Ward (Butler), who led her Butler team to a State Championship this year. The West was led at the plate by Chasity Covington getting two hits and scoring a run.
Game 2, West 1 - East 0
This game was a pitchers dual, pitting Danielle Glosson (North Davidson) for the West against Lauren Taylor (Harnett Central) for the East. Danielle Glosson pitched four scoreless innings before giving way to Morgan Childres (Kings Mountain) who finished off the game with three scoreless innings. Lauren Taylor pitched the entire game for the East giving up one run and taking the hard luck loss. The West scored in the sixth inning with a leadoff single by Courtney Feldon (North Lincoln). After two walks, Ashton Ward (Butler) the winning pitcher in the first game hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score the runner from third.
The State Games of North Carolina are hosted by North Carolina Amateur Sports, a 501(c) 3 charitable nonprofit organization, with the mission of promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles to all ages. If the upcoming softball action matches last week’s baseball action, then the fans in Greensboro will be in for some great softball. The State Games feature many other sports this coming weekend as well including soccer, basketball, gymnastics, lacrosse, wrestling, cycling, and ice hockey.
