AAU baseball state finals - opening day action
June 17th, 2007 Posted in AAU BaseballGreat opening day action at the 2007 U14 and U8 AAU baseball state finals in Concord today. Play was spread across multiple venues, so we didn’t catch all of the games, but we did watch the games at Hartsell and Flowe. Results from Hartsell and Flowe:
Under 8 State Finals
In division one play, the Carolina Angels, Greensboro Titans, Raleigh Phoenix, Carolina Hurricanes, and GBC Team Acceleration will compete for the championship on Sunday.
The Huntersville Hurricanes split a pair of games, with their victory coming against the Carolina Pilots.
The very impressive Carolina Angels won both of their games, including one over the Fuquay Predators.
An excellent Raleigh Phoenix team enjoyed an undefeated day, including a victory over the Weddington American Red Dawgs.
In division three action, a solid Mint Hill Stingers team won both of their games today, including one over the hometown Winecoff Warriors . The Weddington Cobras and Mara Bombers were also undefeated on the day.
Under 14 State Finals
The Carolina Angels (Lexington) and Carolina Pirates (Concord) won both of their games to advance to the championship bracket along with the Charlotte Megastars and Triangle Titans (Wendell).
The Triangle Titans started the day off with a tough victory over a competitive Richmond Rockies (Rockingham) team.
Triple Crown Baseball (Greenville) also started well with a close victory over the Carolina Copperheads (Huntersville). The Copperheads lost both their games, but were very competitive, losing by a combined three runs.
The hometown Carolina Pirates probably played better than any other team today, starting with an offensive explosion against the Bases Loaded Bandits (Salisbury), including this monster home run (video highlight). However, the Angels, Megastars, and Titans are all formidable contenders for the championship on Sunday.
Complete scores and schedules for all venues are on this NC AAU baseball site.
