John Hinson hitting against Sthil Sowers was one of the many terrific matchups, as baseball action started with a bang at The State Games of NC, with the East Seniors verses the West Seniors best of three All-Star Game series. The games featured many of the NC players picked in last week’s MLB draft, and other top seniors from across the state.
Game one matched up two ace starting pitchers coming off exceptional seasons: Trent Rothlin (West; Fred T Foard; view video clip) and Vance Williams (East; Athens Drive; view video clip). Both are likely ACC bound, although Rothlin was drafted by the Mariners last week. Sthil Sowers (North Lenoir) was the first pitcher out of the bullpen for East. Sthil ended an exceptional high school career with a victory over East Rutherford in the state playoffs, and was drafted by the Indians, however Sthil will likely opt to pitch for ECU.
