Especially, as in Cairo’s case, when that involves stopping Carver-Columbus’ quarterback Deron Furr and wide receiver Jarmon Fortson.

Northside-WR tops Ware for second AAAA title

Northside-Warner Robins coach Conrad Nix pulled a play out of his bag of tricks to win the Class AAAA championship in a 20-14 decision over Ware County on Friday. The Eagles (15-0), who are ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 7 in the nation in this week’s Sports Illustrated, were in danger of being of one of the biggest upset victims in championship game history, trailing Ware County late in the fourth quarter.

Class A Emanuel County Institute’s football championship history starts and ends in 1923. One would have a hard time believing that Friday night as the Bulldogs (15-0) played like postseason vets by literally running past and through Wilcox County 41-21 to win their first state crown in 86 years and first under the guise of the Georgia High School Association which begin in 1948.
